About the Workshop
The workshop will discuss various currents in contemporary Islamic thought while addressing the role of Sufism. In particular, it considers the role that Sufism might play in the new global alter’native’ modernities that are emerging in a range of Muslim societies. The discussion will include Islamic modernist thought, traditionalism, progressive Islam and “engaged” Sufism, “New Age” Sufis, and the role of Sufi Orders, including “post-tariqa” Sufism.
Education is a central element of Islam and has always been at the core of its teachings. Knowledge and faith are inextricable components in Islam that define the Muslim believer.
